Welcome to the website of The Cornwall Fiddle Orchestra.

The Orchestra was formed in August 2007 by
Hudson Swan, a violin teacher with the Cornwall Music Service.
Part of his teaching activities was supervising and running the string ensembles at
Helston Community School and Falmouth School.
He had been working on some arrangements of
traditional fiddle music with both these ensembles
and in June 2007 brought them together for a performance at Helston School's Summer
Concert.
The aim of the orchestra is to promote the
learning and playing of traditional fiddle
music from the celtic nations - primarily Scotland, Ireland and of course, Cornwall.
At our first rehearsal in Gweek Reading Room
we had 12 musicians but have grown
rapidly in size. The orchestra currently has over 50 dedicated musicians of all age
groups and abilities.
Hudson has a long history of playing
traditional music and was an original member of
hugely influential Scottish traditional band The Tannahill Weavers.
During his time with the band he performed at concerts and festivals in the USA, Canada
and throughout Europe and recorded the band's first three albums before going on
to record three albums with his own band.
The Cornwall Fiddle Orchestra is a non-profit making community project.
The Orchestra meets each Monday evening in the
Music Suite (Room M1) at
Helston Community College from 7:00pm - 9:00pm.
Players of all age groups and abilities are warmly invited to join the Orchestra.
