Q. I'm only just beginning to play the violin although I do read music.
Would I be able to play the music the orchestra perform?

A. The violin section of the orchestra is split into three parts - violin I, violin II and violin III.
The 1st and 2nd violin parts are quite demanding but the 3rd violin parts have been specifically
arranged to be as simple as possible to follow. Come along to one of our rehearsal nights and try it out.

Q. I have been playing the violin for some years now but would really like to learn about playing traditional
Scottish and Irish fiddle music. Would playing in the orchestra help me in this respect?

A. Playing traditional fiddle music is not difficult. A lot of the sound you hear when you listen to
traditional fiddle playing is produced by bowing technique and quite a few interesting
left hand tricks. Our members are a very friendly bunch and are more than happy to
help out with any questions you may have.

Q. I play the cello but have no knowledge of traditional music. How does the cello fit into your orchestra?

A. The cello plays a large part in our arrangements giving the bottom end a real boost.
Again I would just say..... come along to one of our rehearsals and have a go!
